Educational Overview

Scriptural basis:
Provide a Biblical perspective to help inmates understand what makes people angry.

Real life examples:
The instruction should give real life examples on handling anger practically and show the positive impact this makes on individual lives. Further, examples of spiritual healing also help inmates see that spirituality brings results.

Bible Study Assignments:
The inmates are provided Bible study assignments to review practical, personal steps to be taken in good character development.

Seminar Session Contents:
1. God: Developing an awareness of the spiritual nature of God.
2. Man: Showing the difference between the mortal view versus the spiritual nature of man.
3. Humility: Helping inmates to understand the necessity of a change of heart.
4. The Ten Commandments: How to apply spiritual law to daily life.
5. The Beatitudes: How to apply the principles which Christ Jesus taught.
6. Unconditional love: Showing how to express this love more consistently.
7. Prayer: Developing an understanding of practical application.

Prayer Guide:
Gives the inmate some key elements, based upon Bible verses, which are essential to address in prayer.

HATS Class Summary

The HATS program provides inmates with practical, spiritual perspectives and personal insight into HONEST self-evaluation. The purpose is to initiate development of good character traits and actions to overcome anger and free one from criminal actions with a true willingness to do it with God's help as they develop spiritually.

Current observations indicate that this process of instruction is having a positive effect on the ACTIONS of the inmates.
